How your transfer works

You land in Malta. Your accommodation is on Gozo. This is what we do in between, start to finish.

Between those two facts sit a motorway, a ferry crossing and — if you organise it yourself at midnight with luggage — a certain amount of stress. This is what we do instead.

Before you travel When you land The journey Going home What it costs Children, luggage & pets Why not hire at the airport? If something goes wrong

Before you travel

When you book, we ask for your flight number and arrival time. That is the part people are tempted to skip, and it is the part that matters most: it is how we know where you are.

We watch your flight. If it lands early we are there early. If it is delayed three hours, we know before you have landed, and we are there when you come through — you do not need to message us from the plane, and you are not charged for the delay. You do not need to do anything at all.

If your flight changes after booking — a different flight, a different day — tell us as soon as you know. Changes made more than 24 hours before your pickup are free and no trouble at all; we simply move the booking.

Inside 24 hours we will do what we can, but we cannot promise it. By then the day is planned around you, and on a two-vehicle operation there is not much slack to find. Ask anyway — we would rather try.

Once the driver has set out, the full trip is charged. The drive to meet you is itself a three-hour round trip, so at that point the time and the fuel are spent whether or not you arrive. This is the one situation where we cannot be flexible, and it is why an early message is worth so much more than a late one.

When you land

Your driver will be waiting in the arrivals hall, at the point where passengers come out after collecting their luggage — holding a sign with your name on it. You do not need to look for a particular company or a particular car. Look for your own name.

If that does not work for any reason — the hall is busy, you have come out somewhere unexpected, you simply cannot spot the sign — call +356 9982 6339 and we will arrange somewhere else to meet. It is not a problem and it happens.

You have 60 minutes from landing, included in every transfer. That covers passport control, baggage reclaim and the walk out, and it is generous on purpose.

Here is the thinking behind it, because it explains what we ask of you. We already know when your flight lands — we track it, and we are at the airport waiting before you are. What we cannot see is what happens after that. A bag that does not appear, a long queue at passport control, a connecting group still inside: from where we are standing, all of those look exactly the same as a passenger who never boarded.

So if you are running past the hour, send us a message to say you have arrived. We genuinely do not mind waiting longer, and there is no rush from our side. We only need to know we are not waiting for someone who is not coming.

A message before you fly is welcome

We like being in touch with the people we are driving. If it puts your mind at ease to message us on WhatsApp shortly before you travel — a quick hello, a confirmation that you are on your way — please do. We will not think you are fussing.

+356 9982 6339, the same number for everything. It is a real phone, in a real pocket, on a small island.

The journey

Three stages, and we handle all of them:

  1. Airport to Ċirkewwa — the ferry terminal at the northern tip of Malta. About 45 minutes in normal traffic.
  2. The ferry crossing to Gozo30 minutes on a good day, plus at least 20 minutes of queueing and loading. Passengers are not allowed to remain in the vehicle during the crossing — that is the operator's rule, not ours. You go up to the passenger deck; your luggage stays in the car, which is locked. Take your phone, your documents and anything valuable up with you.
  3. Mġarr harbour to your accommodation — no more than 20 minutes. Gozo is small.

Door to door, allow around three hours between Malta airport and your accommodation, ferry queues and small delays included. That figure is deliberately honest rather than flattering; most trips come in under it.

Traffic on Gozo can occasionally build up, and ferry queues vary with the season and the day. We will tell you what we know and plan around it — you will hear it from us rather than discover it from the back seat.

Ferry tickets are added to your booking at cost and passed on unchanged — there is no mark-up on the crossing. The amount appears as its own line on your quote.

Going home

For your return transfer we collect you from your accommodation and take you back the same way, in reverse.

We collect you around five hours before your flight. That is two hours at the airport, and two and a half to three for the journey — the ferry queue is the part that will not be hurried.

Yes, that sounds like a lot. Here is why we do it anyway: it is far better to have an hour spare at the airport for a last coffee, a beer or a proper meal than to spend the drive watching the clock. There is nothing to be gained from complaining about traffic while sitting in it — it ruins the journey for everybody in the car and it does not make the ferry come sooner. We would rather you started your journey home relaxed.

We watch the ferry timetable and the traffic. The time we give you already has both built in.

What it costs

Prices are per vehicle, not per person — a family of four pays the same as one traveller in the same car.

For the actual figure, use the booking form. Put in your dates, your times and how many of you there are, and you will get a full quote in seconds, with every line itemised. It costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

We quote that way rather than publishing a table because a table goes out of date the moment rates change, and a stale price on a website helps nobody. The form is always current.

Night charges may apply depending on your pickup time, and a surcharge may apply on Sundays. Whatever applies to your booking appears on your quote, in full, before you commit to anything.

Travelling with 12 or more? Get in touch and we will quote for it.

Booking a car as well? Booking both together takes 10% off the package — see Offers.

Children, luggage and special requirements

Child seats are free on transfers. Tell us the children's ages when you book and the right seats will be fitted before we collect you. Children must travel safely restrained in the rear of the vehicle. (Child seats on a car hire are charged separately; the daily rate is shown when you add one to a booking.)

Pushchairs, strollers, wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and anything larger than ordinary luggage — tell us in advance. Our vehicles are sized around standard suitcases, and space is genuinely limited. Given notice we can put you in a larger vehicle. What we cannot do is change the vehicle once it is standing at the airport with you next to it — at that point the boot is the size it is. A sentence at booking prevents an unsolvable problem at arrivals.

Pets cannot travel with us. Carrying animals in a public passenger vehicle is not permitted in Malta, so this is not a matter of preference. Assistance and service animals are exempt and are always welcome — just let us know.

Why not just hire a car at the airport?

You can. But the car would then need to cross on the ferry with you, in the dark, after a flight, on the other side of the road — and you would be doing the navigating.

We drive it because we live here. The route is familiar, the ferry timetable is familiar, and if something goes wrong at 23:00 on a Tuesday you are talking to the person who owns the business rather than a call centre in another country.

If you want a car for your stay, we will have it waiting at your accommodation.

One number, and it is David's

+356 9982 6339.

That is not a switchboard, a ticketing system or an agency. It is David's own mobile — the owner of the business, and most likely the person who will be driving you. There is no layer between you and the person responsible.

  • Something urgent? Call. A cancelled flight, a lost bag, a driver you cannot find, a car that will not start — call, at whatever hour it happens. That is what the number is for and nobody will mind.
  • Not urgent? WhatsApp. A question, a change of plan, a note about your luggage, or just a hello before you fly. We will get back to you.

Flights get cancelled, bags go missing and plans change at short notice. None of it is unusual, and none of it is a problem you need to solve alone in a foreign airport at night.
